The past few years have produced a lesser quantity of parent-friendly vehicles due to the automotive industry crisis, government bailouts, and honestly, just a struggling nation-wide economy. And while many parts of that equation are still in the mending stages, our vehicle manufacturers are giving us some new products for 2012 that are worthy of discussing and well worth the drive!

Siblings Daniel and Amber Jones have a lot more in common after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear (ACL) tear playing soccer. Both contribute to a growing percentage of sports-related knee injury patients under the age of 25.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children under the age of 15 will constitute an average of 40 percent of all sports, recreation and exercise (SRE) related emergency room visits each year.

Parents picking their children up from a St. Vincent’s One Nineteen summer camp last year must have been dumbfounded to hear Donna Sibley had run out of cauliflower. The registered dietitian who leads One Nineteen’s cooking classes apologized to the young, eager eaters for not having a bigger supply of the much-maligned vegetable.

“It was all gone in less than four minutes,” she said of the cauliflower popcorn she decided on a whim to have young cooks include on their camp menu. The roasted florets were immediately consumed, even by children otherwise suspicious of good-for-you produce.

Every parent knows they should brush their teeth regularly and teach their child to do the same.  But what exactly should you do.

The American Dental Association recommends that you brush your teeth at least twice a day with an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste. Replace your toothbrush every three or four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won't do a good job of cleaning your teeth.

After my divorce was final, after coming to terms with being single again, after picking up the pieces and finding a new happiness, I stumbled across something in my jewelry box. “Huh. What do I do with these?”


The wedding rings. Obviously, I don’t need them. Or want them. But I wasn’t sure what to do with them. Save them? Sell them? Pawn them?


Now I have given Riley my wedding attire – dress, shoes, veil, gloves – and she plays dress-up in the outfit. But white gold and a diamond are a bit different than taffeta and sequins.
